Western Australia’s Regional Growth Plan
Western Australians joined together in the City of Perth on September 13, 2003, to determine how to accommodate the region’s tremendous growth. In addition to developing a shared vision for the region, participants played a mapping game, which allowed them to deal with the problems faced by planner in creating the city of the future. Each table was given a set of game chips, each one representing a different population density, and challenged to determine where the expected population growth projected for the region should be distributed.
Input from the meeting, along with data from a region-wide poll, an online discussion and listening sessions for special populations, is being used by the Western Australian Planning Commission to devise their strategic plan for the Perth and surrounding areas.
